Lou Ureneck is professor of Journalism at the Department of Journalism at Boston University. His memoir, “Backcast,” won the National Outdoor Book Award for literary merit, and he is now at work on a book for The Viking Press about a cabin he built in Maine. He is a former editor-in-residence for the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University and deputy managing editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer. His essays have been published in The New York Times, Field & Stream and The Boston Globe.
Nikos Bakounakis was born in Patras, Greece. He is associate professor of theory and practice of journalism at Panteion University (Athens) / Department of Media, Culture and Communication. Cultural and political columnist and cultural editor-in-chief of the newspaper To Vima on Sunday (Athens). Phd in history and civilizations from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, France. His work includes many books on Greek history, primarily concerning the development of the bourgeoisie, its mentality, behavior and the reception of artistic phenomena, ideas and journalism. Professor Bakounakis has published widely in Greece on cultural, journalism and press topics. He is now at work on a book about story telling in the Greek newspapers at the beginning of the 20th century.
Nikos Leandros is chair of the Department of Communication, Media and Culture at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. He received his M.Sc. in Economics and Ph.D from Salford University. He has published extensively in academic journals, conference volumes and is the author of a number of books and monographs including Print Media in Greece. Economic and Technological Perspectives (Delfini, 1992), The Political Economy of Mass Media (Kastaniotis, 2000), The Internet. Development and Change (Kastaniotis, 2005) and Corporate Strategies in the Media Sector (Kastaniotis, 2008). Also he is the editor of New Technologies, Electronic Commerce and the Book with George Pavlidis (Zitis Publications, 2004) and The Impact of Internet on the Mass Media in Europe (Abramis, 2006). Nikos Leandros has worked as Lecturer at Salford University, at the Economic Research Division of the Bank of Greece and was Director of the Research and Documentation Observatory of the National Book Center. Member of the Management Committee of COST 20 Action “The impact of the Internet on the mass media in Europe” and of the COST A 30 Action “East of West: Setting a New Central and Eastern European Media Research Agenda”.
Antonis Skamnakis was born in Chania, Crete and was recently elected assistant professor at the Department of Journalism and Mass Media of the Aristoteleio University of Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece. He is Director of the Daily Regional Newspaper Association-Greece and member of the Committe of Directors of the World Newspaper Association (WAN). He is also scientific coordinator of the Regional Press Institute. He received his PhD in Communication from Dublin City University. He was co-editor of the Intersection, the Journal of Global Communication and Culture and co-editor of Regional Media in Europe published by Papazissis. His work also includes journalism education, racism and xenophobia, politics and media and the history of the regional press.
Professor Michael Meimaris is the founder and director of the New Technologies Laboratory in Communication, Education and the Mass Media of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of the University of Athens. He is currently the Director of the University Research Institute of Applied Communication. He has studied Mathematics in the University of Athens and Statistics and computer based Data Analysis in Paris (University Paris VI Pierre et Marie Curie). His scientific interests involve the application of New Technologies in Communication, Education and the Mass Media, Graphics and Computer Animation, the New Technological Communication Environment and its design, Digital Storytelling, Visual Communication, Digital Game-Based Learning, Open and Distance Education, as well as the training of educators in the New Technologies field. He is a member of the International Committee and President of the National Committee of the Möbius Awards, member of the Scientific Board of the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme Nord of France, as well as of C.I.T.I. of the University of Lisbon and member of the jury of the French Laboratories of Excellence action of the French National Research Agency (ANR).
